The $248 million raised worldwide by Top Gun: Maverick during its first days of showing in cinemas, the feature became the best ever opening for a film with Tom Cruise

Outside of the US, Top Gun: Maverick made $124 million, becoming the top opening for a Tom Cruise movie in 32 countries. It’s also the second best opening for a Paramount feature after Transformers: Age of Extinction.

The previous Tom Cruise film that was the best feature film debut with the actor to date was Mission: Impossible – Fallout, which was beaten 28% by Top Gun: Maverick.

Revenues were also excellent in Italy, with €4 million in receipts making the feature the second-best opening of 2022. This is the synopsis of the movie:

Lieutenant Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise), one of the best pilots in the Navy, is still where he wants to be after more than thirty years of service. He avoids the promotion that would no longer allow him to fly, and once again pushes the boundaries by boldly testing new planes. Called to train a special team of Top Gun Academy students for a secret mission, Maverick meets Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), nicknamed “Rooster”, son of his longtime flight mate Nick Bradshaw “Goose”. Struggling with an uncertain future and the ghosts of his past, Maverick will have to face his deepest fears to complete a very difficult mission, which will require great sacrifice from anyone who chooses to participate.
