Neill Blomkamp spoke to the Dexerto website recently and stated that: District 10The sequel to District 9 coming in the near future. The director is said to be currently working on the development of the science fiction film.

Here are his words:

I’m still working on it. You will find the answer to all this in the near future.

The director had previously said about the development of the District 9 sequel:

I want to go back to that world and tell the rest of the story with Wikus and Christopher. The problem right now is that I have a lot of other projects and ideas that I want to work on and complete… and most importantly, the exact reason for making the sequel good has to be very clear. The first film was so explicitly based on real South African themes and subjects that I was very impressed growing up there, and we need to make sure the next film doesn’t forget that.

Recall that District 9 was released in theaters in 2009 and struck audiences and critics alike for its way of comparing science fiction to the apartheid event in South Africa. The feature film can be seen on Netflix.
