Assunta casethe latest Spanish series on Netflix, collects in a total of six episodes all the events surrounding the murder of Assunta Basterra Porto, a twelve-year-old girl who disappeared on September 21, 2013 and whose body was found lifeless hours later.
The murder of a little girl caused great interest in the media when it became known that Parents were the main and only suspects in the crime. Rosario, who was a lawyer, was sentenced along with her husband to 18 years in prison for the murder of her daughter. He was taken to Teixeiro prison in Coruña. A few years later, after announcing that she was going to be transferred to Lama prison, Pontevedra, Rosario attempted to commit suicide by taking sleeping pills that she had accumulated and was admitted to hospital.
She made a second suicide attempt at A Lama Prison, where she was admitted to the prison medical center due to severe depression. In March 2020, she was transferred to the Brieva women’s prison in Avila. A few months later, in November of the same year, Rosario Porto committed suicide in her cell.
Alfonso Basterrafather
There is a second protagonist in the Assunta case: Alfonso Basterra, played by Tristan Ulloa in the Netflix series. He is the adoptive father and husband of Rosario Porto. Journalist by profession, Basterra too In 2018, he was sentenced to 18 years in prison for the murder of Assunta. Although the mother was the culprit, Alfonso was given the same years because he fully contributed to the murder of the little girl.
Assunta’s father He remains in Teixeiro Penitentiary Centre. where he has been serving his sentence for 10 years. According to some media reports, Alfonso Basterra has a conflictual attitude in prison; something that would prevent him from entering third grade. He never admitted to the crime.
