After inspiring movies and TV series, the personality of Philip K. Dick will be brought straight to the screen, with a biopic in the works that will be produced by Jon Shestack and written by Michael Richter. Central to the story is the life path of Dick himself, told according to the biography Only apparently realcreated by Paul Williams.
Recall that Philip K. Dick died in 1982 at the age of 53 and the author of the biography, Paul Williams, was also a friend of the same author. Despite several awards and accolades such as the Hugo Award, Philip K. Dick became more appreciated after his death. All this considering that the masterpiece film, based on his short story, Blade Runner, was released in the year of Dick’s disappearance.
As in several of his stories, Dick’s life was marked by the abuse of alcohol and hallucinogenic drugs, as well as suicide attempts and paranormal experiences. The story from Only Apparently Real begins in the 1970s, after yet another divorce from Dick, which also fuels the paranoia of persecution.
Shestack said:
Philip K. Dick’s life was surreal, he was someone who worked on a higher level, and with him you will never be able to separate reality from the surreal.
