Major streaming platforms today live in an industry where being first is more about war than serving. They launch great movies, series and news, each with their pros and cons to try to catch up with every end user.

But in the midst of all this confusion, one dedicated to independent documentaries, called GuideDoc, caught the attention of the media. This, although very small, has managed to carve out a lucrative niche among the big giants without making too much noise and without outside funding.

Its creator, Víctor Correal, saw the opportunity when the platform boom wasn’t there yet and launched the Mon Petit documentary in 2013 (Small World) is a complete success on this platform.

“Our documentary was more or less a major success in the industry, we won many international awards, and it was very complex to be screened only after going through the usual cycles in theaters. And that’s happened in dozens, hundreds of feature film documentaries over the years, most of them excellent.”Explains Victor.

Well, for The GuideDoc that gives voice to these works, which are sometimes so quickly forgotten, emerges. There are currently around 1,500 movies on this platform and a monthly subscription price of $7.99.

The majority of GuideDoc’s target audience today United States more than 50%followed by Canada, Australia or the UK and forge alliances with other platforms like Rakuten to view some of its content. “Only 5% of our people are in Spain or maybe less”Correal explains.

As it makes sense, these gradually expanded their business seeing how other platforms like Netflix and learning from all your successes and big mistakes. They agree to copy pretty much anything from visitors to their call-to-action and how to present their catalog.

However, we already see that the results are quite different from the final results that Netflix, for example, presented us.
