You don’t have to be Harry Potter and go to Hogwarts to study spells, just sign up for the Holden school from Turin and learn with Stefano Bessoni all the secrets of stop-motion animation, a magic that can bring any fantasy to life. The departure of the new course is planned for October 2022.
And if you’re not in Turin, no problem. The course is structured thinking of those who work or study. One weekend a month and an intensive week at the end. All professional materials are provided by the school. The course has a limited number of 15 students.
Making a stop-motion animation means imagining, populating and then building a world. At first it only exists in fantasy, then it becomes something real, with houses, characters, objects, clothes. A new reality is created, it is made alive and animated by emotions and poetry by the attention to the smallest details. Today, unlike a few years ago, you don’t need expensive equipment, biblical times or a whole staff of professionals, because a camera, a computer and a story are enough to take the first steps and get good results.
To create stop-motion animations, one must first train the eye and study great authors of the new cinema scene, such as Tim Burton, Wes Anderson, Guillermo Del Toro, as well as historical artists such as Starewich, Svankmajer and the Quay Brothers. But not only that: this technique is also used in television programs, music videos, commercials, multimedia content and even in video games. All stages of design and production will be studied and everyone will build their own articulated dolls with moldable resins, rubbers and many other materials, then place them in fantastic miniature sets, where they come to life frame by frame.
You will also learn the basics of the script to write a short film or a film or series project. In this way, the creation of the characters and the construction of the world and the story in which they go hand in hand will go hand in hand. Everyone will be able to define a personal style that reflects his or her artistic sensitivity and sensations.
