Over the years, Marvel Studios has rarely resorted to recasting actors for specific roles: if for some reason a character’s performer could no longer participate in the franchise, the aforementioned character was removed from the script and replaced by another, perhaps relative or relative. Look what happened to Black Panther: Wakanda Forevermaking T’Challa’s death a narrative pivot and passing the baton.
The only two outstanding changes were made in the early days of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Terrence Howard being replaced by Don Cheadle, starting with Iron Man 2 and with Mark Ruffalo instead of Edward Norton in The Avengers. However, things may change on the occasion of the film sui Lightning strikes.
According to persistent rumors (now unofficially confirmed by Slash Film), the role of General Thaddeus E. “Thunderbolt” Ross, played by William Hurt in The Incredible Hulk, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame And Black Widow (as well as in short “The consultant”) Could change hands in the mythical Harrison Ford.
The character, hand in hand tied with Hulkalso acquires the role of . in the original comics Red Hulk and organizes (also participating in) a new formation of the super team of Lightning strikesa team of government-employed anti-heroes (similar in some ways to the suicide squad by DC Comics).
According to rumors, the lineup recently presented for the feature film about this super team would have been intentionally incomplete, without the leader of the group, Ross himself. The reason is that the announcement, which was to take place at Disney’s final D23 event, was delayed under pressure from Kathleen Kennedy, who didn’t want Ford’s name to blow up as the producer wanted to push. Indiana Jones 5 and he didn’t want some sort of “media dissemination” from the Hollywood star, with a novelty more appealing to the adventurous (but also rather vague, actually) sequel.
The deal is said to have already been signed and in the drawer, with Ford, who is supposed to star in the Thunderbolts movie slated for summer 2024, but who, at least with a cameo, is already in the pipeline. Captain America: New World OrderTwo months earlier.
What’s odd, though, is that Marvel is exposing itself to criticism for recasting as it comes to replacing a recently deceased and beloved historical artist, which it wisely avoided with Chadwick Boseman. If they really needed Red Hulk’s character, they could easily change the comic genesis: they did it with a lot of other characters, from Vision to Star-Lord, why get stuck this way? The question has no answer at the moment and there is no officiality of the thing from Marvel and Disney, at least for now.
Recall that the Thunderbolts cast will see this formation, not published in comics:
The film is scheduled for a theatrical release in the US on July 26, 2024.
