Currently, most of the film industry is supported by superhero films. These are the most powerful franchises in terms of box office and fan movement outside of theaters. Other stories have lost their place before this entertainment. Something that led to various debates. One of those who joined the discussion about DC and Marvel was Quentin Tarantino..

The director is recognized as one of the most prestigious directors in the sector. His productions have a clear cinematic language. Through his performance, Quentin Tarantino has managed to establish various productions and characters as modern classics. Among his most famous films Mad Dogs, crime novel, Kill Bill D Once upon a time… in Hollywood.

They are very different from the superhero movies that are played both on the big screen and in television format. For Quentin Tarantino, these stories are strangling cinema todayaccording to statements given Los Angeles Times. From his point of view, this trend will not stop anytime soon.

Quentin Tarantino’s opinion
about superhero movies

Quentin Tarantino just came out movie spec, a book about essays. In it, he shows himself, according to Glenn Whipp’s review for the aforementioned medium, as a critical and thoughtful viewer in relation to various films. None of them are included in his filmography. In his commentaries there are words to such works as bullet, Dirty HarryY Taxi driver.

There are no direct references to Marvel or DC products in this book. But he does describe a few jokes that are interpreted as questioning those franchises. One of them is based on a comparison with the period of abundance of musicals in the 60s. According to Tarantino, many filmmakers at the time were waiting for this wave to pass so they could celebrate and get back to making other types of films.

For the director, something similar is happening now with different directors: “They can’t wait for the day they can say the same about superhero movies.“. In his view, “the analogy works because it’s like suffocation.” Could this change soon? Quentin Tarantino is not very optimistic: “Scripture is still not on the wall, like it was in 1969 when I thought, ‘Oh my God, we’re just investing a lot of money in things that no one cares about anymore.’

Today, these stories are really important to the fan base, which seems to continue to grow. Both Marvel and DC continue to bet on long-term plans for these stories. The first has a project that will last at least until 2026. The second one works according to the adaptation plan for 8-10 years.

So the message is clear: the industry will continue to think and work to capitalize on these stories. In this context Will Quentin Tarantino dare to do it anytime soon? To this he replied to Glenn Whipp: “To do such things, you have to be an employee. I am not an employee. I’m not looking for a job.”
