There advertising is coming to Disney + Not for all users of course, but exclusively for those who choose to join a new one cheapest subscription designed to expand the number of subscribers to the service. In other words, it will be possible to pay less each month and in return you will have to watch some commercial breaks.

Initially the new low-cost subscription with advertising will only be available in the US. Later it will also be introduced in other countries, probably also in Italy.

Disney it doesn’t want to upset the users. Don’t expect interruptions comparable to those of TV. The company is working on a compromise solution that will make the user experience similar to YouTube’s, but not overly distant from that of normal on-demand platforms. In short, advertising yes, but not too much.

  1. ads will not be longer than 4 minutes in movies and episodes of TV series with a duration equal to or less than an hour
  2. All ads will, of course, be in accordance with Disney’s policies and targeting. Place for the family. It follows that the commercials of alcohol, party campaigns or gambling will be strictly prohibited.
  3. Disney will not promote Netflix, HBO Max and other competing services
  4. Ads will never appear on content accessible through the ‘child profile’.
  5. Anyway, even if there is no ‘child profile’, the ads will never appear in the content designed for the 0-5 year olds group.

Ads on on-demand streaming services are relatively new to the Italian audience, but the same cannot be said in the US, where some competing services have been offering them for some time. In this regard, it’s worth pointing out that Disney+ conditions would be among the most “mild” in the entire industry.

Hulu, a platform also owned by Disney, has 9 to 12 minutes of commercial breaks per viewing hour. Peacock 5 minutes and HBO Max 4 minutes (exactly like Disney+).

Would you be willing to spend a few minutes watching commercials to pay less for your Disney+ subscription?
