Warner Bros. Games announced that Smoke and Rain have been added as playable characters in Mortal Kombat 1.The final episode of the series developed by NetherRealm Studios.
The news came via a newly released trailer revealing the mystery behind the Lin Kuei clan’s goals in Mortal Universe Kombat, reimagined by Liu Kang, where fans of the saga witness the intense fight between Scorpion and Sub-Zero. The video introduces Smoke, a sneaky and mystical warrior. Closely attached to Scorpion and Sub-Zero, Smoke embraces his clan’s mission to defend Earthrealm.
The trailer also introduces Rain, the Great Wizard of Outworld, known for his devastating water magic. Now Rain prepares to investigate the darkest and most powerful magical arts of all realms.
The video not only revealed Smoke and Rain, but also Sektor, Cyrax, Frost, and Scorpion joining as new Cameo fighters.
This latest installment of the series features a new narrative with a reinvention of classic heroes and villains, as well as a large roster of legendary fighters including Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Kung Lao, Kitana, Mileena, Shang. Tsung, Johnny Cage, Kenshi, Smoke, Rain and others. In addition, a separate range of Cameo fighters has been added that provides assistance during conflicts.
The long-awaited installment of Mortal Kombat 1 will be released September 19, 2023 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X | S will be released for Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
Fans who pre-order the game will get Shang Tsung as a playable character, while those who pre-order the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S will also get access to the Mortal Kombat 1 beta, available from August 2023.
