Sony has announced that it plans to permanently eliminate the PlayStation 4. Released in 2013, PS4 has become not only one of Sony’s most successful consoles.but also one of the best-selling gaming platforms in history.
Regardless, Sony now wants to sell the PS5 as its main hardware, which means the PS4 should naturally take a step back. Now, thanks to new recommendations from Sony, we have an idea of when the PS4 could officially go away.
Sony’s latest financial presentation made it clear that it would stop releasing PS4 games in 2025, meaning We still have three more years of previous generation console releases ahead of us.
This does not mean that PS4 games cannot be purchased from now on, but that Sony does not intend to release any new games for the console. That is, there will no longer be ports of their new PS4 games on PS5 (as happened with Horizon Forbidden West).
By 2025, Sony predicts that the majority of its gaming-related revenue will come from the PlayStation 5.and that PC and mobile games also make up the other half of its revenue.
This is not surprising as it makes sense that the PS5 will be Sony’s main commercial focus in the coming years. However, it should be noted that currently PS4 is the platform for which Sony continues to produce and release games thanks to its vast fleet of consoles.
In fact, this year’s biggest PlayStation game, God of War Ragnarok, is expected to hit PS4 when it arrives. It is logical in how many sales, not so much at the product level.
At some point in the next few years, Sony is likely to make a major announcement related to the PS4 and its official end of life. However, we have been told that this announcement should take place before 2025.
With any luck, by then there will be no shortage of semiconductors, and the PlayStation, along with the Xbox, will be able to produce consoles without restrictions and supply problems.
