Like all people, you must have asked yourself what are your hidden talents that will help you succeed later; or also to achieve a better quality of life in the future. You probably had many of these thoughts while you were enjoying playing a video game, and then you got sick because you were “wasting your time.”
Well, we have good news for you. A study published in Talk tells us that video games can help you discover hidden talents. But that’s not all, they can also help you live a happier life.
The study is based directly on the results of several studies. One of them published in the magazine International Journal of Computer Game Technologyshed light on”Relationship between players’ value systems and their behavior in games“. Another of the relevant studies in this report was published in ResearchGateand aims to study “behavior in multiplayer video games with offline leadership”.
Both studies come to a clear conclusion: who you are in video games largely reflects how you behave in everyday life.. The evidence shows that the real values of the players are usually reflected quite well in the decisions in the game, which offers us a projection of the personality of the game even in fictional scenarios.
Video games are great for uncovering unconscious data
That’s it. Video games are good for more than just killing boredom. In fact, if you’re good enough at observing, they can reveal more about your personality than you thought. Our values and skills are usually so connected to our personality that makes us unaware of its existence.
However, entering a fictional and simulated space may allow us to move better. This state is known in psychology as the “flow state”.and allows us to fully focus on a specific task for an extended period of time.
The ego disappears. Time flies. Each action, movement and thought inevitably follows from the previous one, as if it were a jazz game. Your whole being is involved and you are using your abilities to the fullest.

But how does this flow state unlock our true potential? This is where the magic begins. As Mihai describes, “the ego disappears” so your reactions become more authentic. without passing the previous filter of social perceptionexpectations and rules imposed on you by others or even by yourself.
This moment is caused by video games and the actions you take in them. can reveal conflict resolution skills, motivation, perseverance and much more.
So what does your favorite video game say about your personality?
FROM Quantik Foundry They developed a model that harmonize personality traits with three different play styles.
- The first one was named social action (Action social), which expresses extraversion in the context of video games. The priority is the search for thrills, interest in explosions, weapons and competition between players.
- Second Master Achievements (Mastery-Achievement). These are players who focus on long-term goals and planning. Similarly, they are fastidious, love challenges, strategy, finishing touches, and power.
- Thirdly, we have Immersion-Creativity (Immersion-Creativity). These players value the open experience and tend to focus more on fantasy and games that encourage discovery. This group has a great appreciation for the history of video games as well as their design.
We found significant correlations between offline personality traits and gaming motivation. Thus, players with higher extraversion scores tend to have higher action social scores. And players who score higher on openness tend to score higher on immersion-creativity. The relationship between conscientiousness and skill improvement also had partial empirical support.
