The video also focuses in particular on the style chosen to stage this fascinating investigative adventure: the game is in fact presented as an interactive work reconstructed according to the style of illuminated manuscripts and a little woodcut print of medieval Europe. The team also cites one of the main sources of inspiration as “The Nuremberg Chronicle“, Hartmann Skull’s famous collectible, written in Latin in 1493, in which the colors, shapes and designs evoke the style of the characters and historical imagery recreated by Obsidian.

Announced at the Xbox & Bethesda Showcase with a trailer, penance is the new detective RPG from Obsidian. The protagonist is a skilled miniaturist who becomes involved in a series of murders at Kiersau Abbey over the course of twenty-five years. The choices what he does affects the storyline, the community, and every decision he makes will have lasting consequences that will lead him to the center of a dark conspiracy.

Pentiment will be available for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on November 15, 2022, launching on day one within Xbox Game Pass.
