Rovio will remove Rovio Classics: Angry Birds, a bundle of classic Angry Birds games returning in 2022, from the Android app store on the same day. February 23. On iOS and iPadOS, the company will retain the game, changing its name to “Red’s First Flight” in the App Store.

The company announced that it is withdrawing the classic Angry Birds games in an official statement on its social networks:

“We reviewed the Rovio Classics: Angry Birds case and decided that Angry Birds Classics would be removed from the Play Store on February 23, 2023 due to the impact on our game catalog.”

Rovio wanted to convey all his love to fans of the Angry Birds saga and keep the development team working hard to continue the Angry Birds classics.

Before its final pullback, Rovio will try to rename the game on iOS

Other company games like Angry Birds 2, Angry Birds Friends and Angry Birds Journey will still be available on iOS and Android.

Regardless, users who still have a classic Angry Birds game installed will still be able to enjoy the game. On an interesting note, “Buck” (Rovio’s Community Development Manager) mentioned the decision to rename the Angry Birds classics on iOS. It is part of a “bigger plan” regarding the origins of our beloved Red.. Rovio wants to explore other alternatives that make it viable to keep the classics in the App Store.
