Sberbank was fined 600 thousand rubles for misleading advertising: the bank indicated an attractive loan rate in large print and the conditions for obtaining it in small print, the FAS reported. The agency acknowledged that such advertising violated Russian law.

Sberbank fined for misleading advertising

The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) fined Sberbank for violating advertising laws. The amount of the fine for an administrative violation amounted to 600 thousand rubles, according to the FAS.

The department noted that the bank listed an “attractive” loan rate in large print, but the conditions for obtaining this rate were in fine print. In turn, the details of how to receive the fee were left in an explanatory note at the bottom of the page and shown to the consumer for a “short time”, the FAS emphasized.

Earlier, in similar circumstances, the Otkritie Bank received a fine from the FAS in the amount of 300 thousand rubles. Details of getting an attractive rate on the loan were footnoted in fine print, misleading consumers, the department explained.
