British rock band Queen’s song catalog could sell for $1 billion, the biggest deal in music industry history. The rights to Queen’s music are partially owned by the Disney Music Group, and its potential buyer is Universal Music Group.
The rights to songs by Queen, one of the most popular rock bands in the world, can sell for a billion dollars, writes The Times.
The potential buyer of Queen’s song catalog is called Universal Music Group. According to the publication, the group is actively negotiating with the rights owner, Disney Music Group, although the latter denied the fact of negotiations.
Disney Music Group only owns the rights to Queen’s songs in North America. The international rights to Queen’s work belong to the family foundation of its founder Freddie Mercury, his beloved Mary Austin and members of the group.
If the deal goes through, it will be the largest in the history of the music industry, the newspaper notes. Bruce Springsteen sold the rights to all of his songs to Sony Music Entertainment for $550 million in 2021, Hipgnosis Songs Capital bought Justin Bieber’s entire catalog of songs in 2023 for $200 million.
