Researchers from the Institute of Biophysics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences have shown that survivin, a protein involved in the regulation of cell division and survival, could be the basis of a testing system for analyzing urine and determining whether it is. The patient has diseases of the genitourinary system.
A study by scientists identified survivin in samples from patients with inflammatory diseases and benign urinary tract hyperplasia. At the same time, this protein was not found in the urine samples of healthy patients. In addition, survivin made it possible to detect the presence of bladder cancer with an accuracy of over 65%.
The analysis method developed by experts is carried out in 1.5 hours and does not require compliance with special conditions and highly qualified personnel. Detection of survivin in urine is assisted by a highly sensitive bioluminescent reporter protein that glows when the compound is present.
The first pilot studies of the new test system have been completed. However, scientists continue to work to improve its accuracy.
