Data were obtained after reviewing the autopsy of 90% of the patients who died. Traces of bacterial pneumonia associated with ventilator use were found. The researchers confirmed that the deaths of these people were directly related to the use of ventilation, which resulted in secondary infection, lung damage, and often death.
As noted, 90% of specimens collected for autopsy found pneumonia or extensive damage to the alveoli. This indicates the connection of secondary pneumonia with artificial ventilation of the lungs.
According to the information obtained, the disease recorded as coronavirus in 59% of the cases was caused by respiratory diseases other than viruses: 43% bacterial pneumonia, 16% non-pathogenic causes of respiratory failure. The overall diagnostic picture was complicated by the large number of false positive tests affecting the increase in mortality.
The study emphasized that the cause of death was an associated bacterial infection caused by the use of mechanical ventilation. At the same time, researchers argue that in cases where patients die, they need ordinary pneumonia treatment, not a ventilator.
