In the near future, Russia will begin to use its own transponders – small devices that allow you to drive without stopping on toll highways and automatically pay for travel on private roads.

According to the information obtained, the first batch of Russian transponders consisting of 16,000 devices will be received by Avtodor. They ordered 100,000 transponders last year. However, due to unknown reasons, the shipment of 16,000 devices had to be delayed and improvements were made.

It should be noted that currently about 2.5 million transponders are in use in Russia, so 16,000 is a very small number, especially given the increased traffic on the roads. A minimum of 200,000 devices are required per year.

Following the imposition of sanctions on Russia, the supply of transponders and DSRC antennas was stopped. There is also evidence that domestic transponders will be more expensive than imported ones. But Avtodor prevented a shortage by reassuring that Russian devices would not cost 6,000 rubles.
