Alexandra Horowitz, a professor at Columbia University’s Barnard College in New York, conducted an experiment with a group of scientists to understand why dogs look so “guilty” at humans.

Experts asked the dogs and their owners to enter the room and placed a delicious treat in front of them. The owners were asked to leave the room after ordering the dog not to eat the food.

Some dogs were given unlawful treats while their owners were away. But in the end, it turned out that they looked equally “criminal” whether they ate this delicacy or not. That is, even if a person has not eaten anything, they have such an appearance even when they just make an angry face.

This means that dogs don’t actually feel guilty or embarrassed. We just don’t understand their behavior well.
