Former senior executive of Samsung for stealing company factory data.
The 65-year-old top manager, whose name was not disclosed, is accused of stealing engineering drawings of Samsung’s processor plant, as well as data on the company’s chips.
Together with his accomplices, he assembled the exact assembly of the Samsung factory in China, which would produce these processors.
The man was able to find several contacts. An unnamed Taiwanese company was supposed to invest $6.2 billion but eventually pulled out. A former Samsung employee was able to get $350,000 from the Chinese infection, which was spent on the production of a trial batch of processors. The Chinese factory employs about 200 people from Samsung and SK hynix Inc.
Damage to Samsung due to the theft of trade secrets is estimated at $230 million. [Yonhap News]
