According to Reuters, Acer delivered at least $70.4 million worth of computers and laptops to Russia between April 8, 2022 and March 31, 2023, that is, already during the sanctions period. The publication refers to customs records.
Observers expressed surprise that the Taiwanese company’s actions “contrasted with the actions of key Western competitors – Dell and HP, which left Russia in February and April 2022.” At the same time, the material states that Acer’s actions are not illegal.
It is also emphasized that since the shipments are made out of Taiwan, Taipei’s sanctions against Russia were not violated because the equipment was first exported to Switzerland.
