According to expert Boris Lopatin from Megafon, attackers can send unwanted or malicious files through these technologies. The same applies to Android smartphones that do not work over Wi-Fi. Expert recommends enabling “Contacts Only” setting on your device before using AirDrop to minimize risk.
To reduce the risk of connecting to unsecured networks, Lopatin recommends turning off automatic Wi-Fi connection. It warns against internet banking without a password, accessing e-wallets, or entering payment details on websites that use public Wi-Fi hotspots. Scammers can hijack information from your apps. For such actions it is better to use mobile Internet or Wi-Fi at home. It is also important to log into social networks through secure networks and only use sites with an HTTPS digital security certificate.
For additional protection, Lopatin recommends installing antivirus software on the device. Most antiviruses warn you about unsafe networks. These simple steps can help keep your data safe when using wireless technology in public.
