In early 2023, it was noticed that such content is only available to paid YouTube subscribers on iPhone and Apple TV. In April, Google officially announced the availability of such a feature, adding that they plan to add it to Android in the future.

Now Google has kept its word – the company has started testing this feature for Android and Google TV users.

Note that many mistakenly believe this innovation makes 1080p video chargeable. Actually it is not. YouTube Premium subscribers will not only get FullHD videos, but also their enhanced versions with increased bitrate. The current 1080p variant remains free for all.
