The agency said the program was 97% effective across all demographics, including dark-skinned people. Currently, the program is optional and compares the passenger’s face with the government-issued ID in real time.
The TSA claims that no footage was recorded and the data was immediately overwritten after each passenger.
The TSA also plans to make biometric recognition mandatory in the future, citing efficiency and effectiveness, but has yet to publish pilot test results.
