TikTok executives appeared before an Australian parliamentary committee to address concerns about the app’s ties to China. Liberal Senator James Paterson questioned how many times Australian user data was accessed by TikTok employees in China, Farrell was unable to give a definitive answer to this, but acknowledged that such cases do occur.
Farrell spoke about measures to protect user data, including minimum access levels, justification of business needs, and coordination with leaders and the global security team.
The head of the data security department said the app never received requests to provide personal data to the Chinese government.
