According to the publication, even equipment models that were previously considered invulnerable suffered. Weak GPS satellite signals confuse the signals with competing interference, making the system vulnerable to disruption. The US military uses a military-grade GPS signal known as the M code. But leaked Pentagon documents showed that existing anti-jamming filters failed to protect American weapons.

The article also highlights that existing alternatives to GPS have disadvantages and it will take years to develop a new guidance system.

Interruption of GPS signals also poses serious problems for Ukrainian forces, which depend heavily on accurate positioning and navigation.
