Launched on July 5, the app used the platform’s popularity to attract early followers, allowing users to sign up with their Instagram* accounts. However, Threads’ explosive debut was short-lived and pale in comparison to Twitter, the social media giant it’s trying to replace.

Despite the initial rise in popularity of Threads*, Twitter’s web traffic hasn’t changed much since the app’s release. Threads*’s decline in popularity casts doubt on the developer company’s attempts to disrupt the established social media landscape. Meanwhile, Twitter continues to face its own challenges, including blackouts and other scandals.
