Twitter account owner XenoPanther has found that the .WIM (Windows Image) build 25126 file also works in the latest Canary build 25905.

This means that users can still use this file to upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 11, although Microsoft has prevented such an upgrade since build 25131.

The reasons why Microsoft blocked the update feature in the first place are unknown, but now the issue seems to have been resolved thanks to some “holes”.

Therefore, Windows 8.1 users who want to upgrade to Windows 11 can do so for free using the build 25126 .WIM file, but it is worth noting that such an upgrade may require certain technical skills and knowledge.
