The move comes in response to a new European Union regulation mandating the USB Type-C port for smartphones.
However, leaks also point to the existence of a new Apple 3LD3 chip. It is believed that it could be used to encrypt data transmission, although its exact purpose is still unclear.
This chip can also limit the charging speed. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has previously stated that users will need certified cables to achieve higher charging speeds on the iPhone 15.
Perhaps the 3LD3 chip will be used to tell the difference between an Apple certified cable and other compatible adapters.
As a result, while your home USB-C cables are likely to be compatible with the iPhone 15, you may need a USB-C cable made specifically for the iPhone for full functionality.
