The automatic station “Luna-25” took a picture of the “dark” side of the moon. It represents the Zeeman crater located at the south pole of the satellite. The recent launch of Luna was Russia’s first mission to an Earth satellite in 47 years.
Luna 25 sent the first photograph it took back to Earth. The image captures Zeeman crater, located on the far side of the moon, Roscosmos reported. The state corporation calls Zeeman a unique object located on the surface of the moon.
As part of the mission, the station also measured gamma-ray and neutron fluxes on the lunar surface.
Roscosmos launched the Luna-25 station from the Vostochny Cosmodrome on August 11. The task of the station is to carry out investigations in the lunar soil to detect the presence of ice. Landing “Luna-25” is expected on August 21.
