X, formerly known as Twitter, appears to have experienced yet another glitch since Elon Musk purchased the platform in October 2022. Over the weekend, many users realized that tweets posted before 2014 don’t show attached images or videosthereby losing the multimedia content of practically historical publications.
Many users like Tom Coates who shared what happened on his X (Twitter) profile, they thought it was about Elon Musk’s new strategy to save money. Coates himself, in fact, called this decision “hooliganism” of the magnate. He stated that the executive removed “nearly ten images and videos from the early 2000s” from the service.
These deleted photos from X (Twitter) include one of the most famous and retweeted selfies in history, a selfie by Ellen DeGeneres at the 2014 Oscars. Users also noticed that many of her images, videos, or YouTube links from these posts were shared until 2014, also disappeared. All that was left of the tweet was the text and the t.co URL, which did not lead to any website.
Absurd decision by Elon Musk or failure of X (Twitter)?

Considering the absurd decisions Elon Musk has made since he became the owner of X (Twitter), it would not be strange that removing these images and videos from pre-2014 tweets was one of the mogul’s many strategies to reduce costs due to the platform’s low income.
Fortunately, This is not an intentional change, it appears to be a bug in X (Twitter). Many users have noticed that some images, such as the selfie of Ellen DeGeneres at the Oscars, are still available on the platform’s servers. All this, despite the fact that the publication did not show the content.
Moreover, several of the most popular posts of the time already seem to be working correctly, despite the fact that many others have not yet been restored. As of now, neither Elon nor Linda Iaccarino, CEO of X (Twitter), have commented on the matter. But it is likely that the media files will be restored within the next few days.
