Tomorrow, October 20, the movie on Black Adam of Dwayne Johnson main character, but on Rotten tomatoes the feature film has already been negatively reviewed. On the Black Adam review aggregator, it received only 54% positive reviews, the lowest score for DC since Justice League. These are judgments that are in stark contrast to the first reviews that came online, which spoke positively of the film.
Eric Francisco of Inverse talks about a product that “misses a lot of the entertainment qualities it could have had”. Casey Chong of Casey’s Movie Mania described Black Adam as “a movie that, despite some promising moments and Dwayne Johnson’s ability to steal the show, is quite hit and miss.”
There are several critics who speak of an important presence of Dwayne Johnson, but of a film that fails to add more. Joey Magidson of Awards Radar said:
Black Adam has Dwayne Johnson, but he lacks everything else to legitimize and recommend.
On the other hand, however, other critics have argued that Dwayne Johnson’s performance makes up for everything else.
While the plot is repetitive and the characters weak, Black Adam is propelled by the performance of Dwayne Johnson, who seems to hold a great future.
A week ago, the first online reviews had more than praised the feature. Steve Weintraub of Collider said:
The Rock is great as Black Adam. He spent ten years preparing for this role, taking out anyone who stood in his way. Can’t wait to watch the sequel.
Paul McGuire of Rotten Tomatoes called it an “epic film in every way”. The Movie Podcast called Black Adam “one of the most adrenaline-pumping movie adventures of recent years. Some of the characters and the writing of the feature film promise to change the DC universe. Pierce Brosnam steals the show.”
Erik Davis spoke of “lots of action and characters that immediately conquer. Dwayne Johnson was able to balance the idea of being disturbing and threatening, but at the same time empathetic. Aldis Hodge with his Hawkman and Pierce Brosnan with Doctor Fate I especially loved them. I would like more JSA movies.”
The critics therefore seem rather divided over Black Adam, a film that aims to open the doors of a DC Cinematic Universe stronger than ever, as Dwayne Johnson has promised a Black Adam against Superman, and productions that can better meet fan demands.
The wait is almost over: Black Adam will be in the hall from 20 October.
