Eldar Murtazin, a specialist in the Mobile Research Group, warns that improper use of a smartphone can cause its battery to catch fire. These cases occur up to ten times a month in Russia, and similar statistics are available in other countries.
Among the most common causes of smartphone fires is damage to the battery shell, which can occur if the device is dropped frequently. The second common cause is overload from cheap chargers or uncontrolled external batteries that can deliver more power than the smartphone can handle.
It is also important to prevent overheating of the battery, which can occur if the smartphone is left in the sun. If the battery begins to swell or protrude from the case, it is a danger sign and such a device should be replaced immediately. Murtazin also recommends replacing the batteries regularly, every two to three years, especially if the smartphone starts to run out of power quickly.
