Tests of the self-healing material will be carried out on the International Space Station (ISS) in two stages. This information was given by the General Manager of the Center. MV Keldysh, Vladimir Koshlakov, for whom this material was developed.

The first part of the experiment will be carried out to demonstrate that the material can be regenerated. The second part will include, among other things, the creation of a special design that can be used on the Russian orbital station. These studies are carried out jointly with the Cosmonaut Training Center. Yu.A. Gagarin.

In August 2020, Koshlakov announced the development of a nanomaterial for spacecraft that could heal even after damage such as micrometeorite impacts. The basis of this material is a non-Newtonian fluid, which changes its viscosity depending on the strain rate.
