The volume of cash in ATMs and bank tellers against the background of currency fluctuations reached a record 2 trillion rubles. In July alone, this amount increased by 180 billion rubles, which is the maximum increase since September 2022, when a partial mobilization was announced in Russia.
The volume of cash in ATMs and bank tellers exceeded 2 trillion rubles for the first time. According to the data of the Central Bank, in July the volume of cash increased by 9.6% and reached 2.07 trillion rubles.
Cash growth of nearly 10% in July was the highest since September 2022, when a partial mobilization was announced in Russia. Then the boxes and ATMs received 201.9 billion rubles.
The amount of cash in ATMs and cash registers grows for the second month in a row. In June, the indicator increased by 6.3% or 111.8 billion rubles.
Experts interviewed by RBC attribute the growth of cash in ATMs to the weakening of the ruble. In June-July 2023, the Russian national currency fell significantly against the US dollar and the euro, triggering a high demand for foreign exchange transactions.
