The number of workers of medium and large companies facing wage arrears fell from 2.5 million in 2005 to 10,000 in 2023. The volume of debt itself decreased from 15 billion to 800 million rubles, 19 times. This conclusion was reached at the Higher School of Economics after analyzing the situation for 17 years, according to Izvestia.

Salaries in Russia began to be delayed 250 times less

Among the reasons for the decrease in debt are the growth of the economy and the modifications of the Labor Code, which made defaults more expensive for companies.

In addition, last year the shortage of personnel in the country worsened, due to which salaries not only did not lag behind, but even increased. At the same time, the authorities see risks in the “abnormal” unemployment rate of 3%.

In 2022, the total number of registered unemployed in the country decreased by almost 30% compared to 2021. At the end of last year, there were 564,000. At the same time, the time to look for a job has increased: on average, Russians find suitable vacancies in 4.6 months.
