Yandex.Maps has published instructions that will allow drivers to configure their smartphones in such a way as to increase the accuracy of location determination and not depend on GPS failures in the center of Moscow.

Yandex told how drivers can improve the accuracy of geolocation in the center of Moscow

Problems with geolocation in Moscow began in May 2023. They wrote on social networks that calling a taxi in the center of Moscow has become noticeably more expensive. And taxi drivers complained that due to navigation problems, passengers not only cancel orders, but also give poor ratings.

A representative of the service told RB.RU that Maps continues to develop solutions that improve the calculation of geolocation in the center of the capital.

What drivers should do:

  • enter developer mode in the smartphone settings and disable Wi-Fi request restriction;
  • update the application to the latest version;
  • activate Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

A Yandex.Maps representative noted that usually Wi-Fi request limiting is enabled for users by default, so the smartphone scans access points no more than twice a minute. If you disable this restriction, the device will scan them every 2-3 seconds.

“Yandex.Maps” and “Navigator” can read the user’s geolocation using the nearest Wi-Fi access points; this helps with GPS glitches in central Moscow. The new settings will allow you to more accurately determine your location.

The solution only works on smartphones running Android 10 and above, except for Huawei and Honor devices. On iOS devices, it is also not possible to disable Wi-Fi request restriction.

Detailed instructions on how to disable Wi-Fi request restriction can be found for different models. link.
