Amazon launched a Generative artificial intelligence (AI) tool for creating product descriptions this Thursday (13). With this functionality, merchants can simply initiate the text and let the AI handle the rest.

This feature is powered by anonymous big language models (LLM) “trained on big data” that are capable of recognizing, summarizing, translating, predicting and generating texts for products.

To generate text with AI, sellers need to start with the text briefly; A few words or phrases will suffice. Then, let the AI model write the rest of the explanation.

Once finished, the merchant can edit the AI-generated text and refine it to better meet their needs or make it more appealing to the consumer.

“These new features will help sellers create high-quality ads with less effort and provide customers with more complete, consistent and engaging product information that will enhance their shopping experience,” Amazon explains.

Tutorial using product descriptions

As recommended by Amazon, the model was trained using product descriptions available on the platform itself. “Amazon has traditionally used machine learning and deep learning to automatically extract and enrich product information,” the company notes.

While AI is likely designed solely for sales, it is still susceptible to errors. Dealers who adopt the tool need to be mindful of the consequences to avoid broadcasting hallucinations.
