Western publications have released the first reviews of the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus.
By tradition, we collect the most interesting things that impressed us with the new iPhones this year.
In short, everyone liked the new screens, camera and battery life. But there are also disadvantages.
1. Edge
This is not for those who want the best camera, the latest processor, and the fanciest design.
The iPhone 15 is very similar to the previous iPhone 14 Pro. Instead of a notch, there is a Dynamic Island, a 48-megapixel camera, an A16 Bionic processor, but there is a new USB-C port instead of Lightning.
I can’t say that the iPhone 15 or 15 Plus is suitable for most people. There’s a reason Apple continues to sell tons of Pro models every year, even at lower prices. I was hoping Apple would add 120Hz to the base iPhones and Always-on Display this year, but that didn’t happen.
The design of the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus remains the same as all models since the iPhone 12. It is still glass front and back with a square aluminum frame.
But Apple has made some changes that make the device more comfortable to hold. The solid edges of the aluminum frame have been slightly rounded, and the glossy glass on the back has been replaced with frosted glass.
Another big change this year is the move from Lightning to USB-C for charging and data transfer. The USB-C connector supports wired charging up to 27W and can display images at 4K 60 FPS.
However, data transfer is limited due to USB 2.0: only 480 Mbps, which is 20 times slower than USB 3 data transfer speeds on the iPhone 15 Pro and 80 times slower than all Macs. It just appeared on the stingy limit for a phone costing over $800.
2. Tom’s Guide
iPhone 15 Plus broke the record for iPhone autonomy.
Anyone who loves big screens will love the large 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR display in iPhone 15 Plus. When watching HDR video, we recorded a peak brightness of 1,310 nits.
Even outside, with the direct sun shining on me, I could easily see the information on the iPhone 15 Plus screen. The biggest downside to the display is that Apple devices handle screen updates at 60Hz. Competitors at this price offer 90 Hz.
I’m glad Apple built Dynamic Island into the iPhone 15 Plus. A year after its departure, many more applications began using the new connector.
The A16 Bionic processor installed in the iPhone 15 Plus remains relevant. In the Geekbench test, the new iPhone scores much higher than the iPhone 14 Pro Max with the same processor and the iPhone 14 Plus with the A15 Bionic.
Everyday tasks like opening apps, watching videos on YouTube and Safari are easy on iPhone 15 Plus with A16 Bionic.
In our battery life test, I didn’t think the iPhone 15 Plus would outperform the iPhone 15 Pro Max, but that’s exactly what happened. The iPhone 15 Plus lasted 14 hours and 14 minutes when surfing the web in Safari. This is not only an improvement over the iPhone 14 Plus’s time of 11 hours and 57 minutes, but also with the knowledge that it beats the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s time of 14 hours and 2 minutes.
I’m glad to see this improvement in battery life, but Apple needs to reduce the charging time of the iPhone. The new USB-C connector charges the iPhone 15 Plus by 39% in 30 minutes. The iPhone 14 Plus charges up to 46% in the same time.
3. Wired
The iPhone 15 is a very good phone.

I compared photos mainly between the iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 15 and Google Pixel 6 Pro for good measure.
The photos I took with the iPhone 15 looked significantly better than those taken with the iPhone 13 Pro. The 15 delivers much more detail and more accurate colors, better control over exposure, and no lag at all when shooting in low light. Depending on the scenes, there was a complex image captured on iPhone 14, 14 Pro (especially iPhone 14 Pro) and iPhone 15.
The biggest update is that the iPhone 15 can shoot both 24-megapixel and 48-megapixel images. But this feature is only available for shooting at 1x rotation and in decent lighting. If you shoot at a 0.5x angle, the camera defaults back to 12MP.

iPhone 15 now has an additional 2x optical zoom option. Portrait mode on iPhone 15 can be activated automatically when the camera detects a subject suitable for portrait photography. Although in my experience, the iPhone 15 still hasn’t found any of my subjects suitable for portrait photography.
Apple carefully guards the camera, but publishes at least larger photos and videos to fans.
