The Russian registry office now has a service that will help you choose a name for a child. You can set parameters like rarity, geography, and name length, and the service will offer options. This is stated in the message from the Federal Tax Service.

The Civil Registry launched an interactive service to select a child’s name.

“The selection was made on the basis of five thousand unique real names of children whose birth was registered in the civil registry since October 1, 2018,” the service said in a statement.

The interactive service takes into account criteria such as the sex of the child, the parents’ wishes regarding length and rarity, and the first letter can also be specified. The service will select the options that best match the child’s middle name. But you can generate a name at random, without specifying characteristics or wishes.

In addition, the portal has published a registry with a classification of the most popular names of people born since 1926.

According to the service, in 2023 the most common names in Russia were Sofia and Mikhail, with Artem and Eva in second place. Among the rarest names this year are Emma-Nika and Zakaroi.
