In Russia, at the facilities of the Rutek plant in Saransk, owned by the structures of the former Minister of Communications Leonid Reiman, production of the national anti-spy smartphone R-Fon was launched. The device will run on the Rosa Mobile operating system. This was discussed at the IT Scientific and Technical Center “Rosa”.

The company of former Communications Minister Leonid Reiman launched the production of an anti-spy smartphone.

The director of the TI Rosa Scientific and Technical Center, Oleg Karpitsky, announced plans to launch in July 2023 a smartphone with the operating system developed at the Scientific and Technical Center. According to Karpitsky, the developers integrated “the best experience of Android and iOS users” into the system so that the new device was comfortable to use and did not need to be relearned.

As Forbes previously wrote, the first device is planned to be produced in China. The publication found the registration of said device in the registry of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC). The device description says that the smartphone will be produced under the “RUTEQ” brand and will be launched by Hong Kong-based Bopel Mobile Technology Co Limited.

As an STC representative explained to Vedomosti, a small batch of Chinese smartphones was imported to compare build quality. Surface assembly of the boards and operating system firmware will be carried out in Saransk.

Previously, the head of the Association of Professional Users of Social Networks and Messengers, Vladimir Zykov, posted photos and details about the future device on his Telegram channel.

Thus, the diagonal of the screen is 6.7 inches, the device is equipped with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. The main camera features are 50 MP, the battery is 5000 mAh. The phone also has two SIM slots.

Rutek clarifies that developing its own drivers for all hardware modules “from scratch” will provide the device with the highest level of confidentiality and “eliminate the presence of markers that could potentially be found both in the component manufacturer’s original drivers and in the code of AOSP.”

“This type of work is not just programming. This is full-fledged R&D, which has no analogues in Russia. The experience gained in the process of this work is one of the key values of our operating system. However, all the efforts made allow us to be sure that R-FON is a smartphone with greater protection against cyber espionage,” he notes.

The STC noted that the information disseminated in the media about the R-Fon price of 40 thousand rubles does not correspond to reality; Its actual cost has not yet been announced.
