Apple officially announced it this Monday (06) during WWDC 2022, iOS 16. One of the highlights of the new version of the brand’s mobile operating system is the redesign of the lock screen.

According to the brand, this is the biggest change to the software’s lock screen. The idea is to allow a high level of customization and also offer greater fluidity and usability.

Starting with iOS 16, you will be able to customize many elements such as the font of the time numbers, filters, background photos, icon size and colors, widgets and more. In addition to the photos from the user’s own gallery, the system will have a selection of images as suggestions, including landscapes, abstract portraits, emojis and more.

Widgets can be, for example, keeping you informed about the weather, news and Uber (knowing how long it will take the car to reach you).

And thanks to the new screen that will allow many more images, notifications now appear at the bottom of the screen. Users will be able to swipe up if they want to access all app notifications.

Other features

iOS 16 will also see several improvements already released by Apple, such as Live Text (which translates texts in real time) and SharePlay (which lets you listen to music and watch movies, videos, and TV shows with friends).

Similar to Google Lens, Live Text is updated to read text in videos in addition to still images. SharePlay is now available in all apps with FaceTime access.

Check out the other features of the new iOS 16 below:

  • Messages: Users can edit recently sent messages, recover recently deleted messages, and mark conversations as unread so they can come back later;
  • Focus mode improvements: The feature to block notifications at important times now allows further customization, even importing certain wallpapers and choosing which notifications are important in Email, Messages, Calendar and more;
  • Apple Pay later: Apple’s payment service now supports installment payments. Payments can be made every 15 days for a maximum of six weeks;
  • Sports news in the news: The news widget now displays sports news from the user’s favorite leagues and teams. Information shown will include leaderboards, game times and tournament standings;
  • Dictation improvements: application It offers a new in-device experience that allows users to seamlessly switch between sound and touch. Users can type with the keyboard, tap the text field, move the cursor, and enter QuickType suggestions without having to interrupt Dictation. Additionally, Dictation features automatic punctuation and emoji dictation;
  • iCloud Photo Sharing: The family-oriented feature allows the creation of folders to create a large bulk photo library.

availability

iOS 16 is available to Apple Developer Program members starting today and will receive a public beta next month at beta.apple.com.

The software will be released as a free update for all users in the last quarter of the year for iPhone 8 and later.
