In Odnoklassniki you can now learn how to express gratitude, express compliments and convey other popular expressions with gestures. The social network has partnered with Surdoclass, an education platform for the hearing impaired, to launch a series of video wishes featuring sign language translation. This project is linked to the International Day of Sign Languages, celebrated on 23 September. The main purpose of the project is to draw attention to the rights of the hearing impaired and to introduce people to the importance of sign language.
These video wishes are absolutely free and are available in the gifts section on all Odnoklassniki platforms. In a series of video wishes you will find phrases such as “Love is above all”, “I give tenderness and warmth”, “Do good deeds”, “May this day bring good luck”, “You are the best”, “Smile”. more often” and many more. They were introduced by Anna Pogorelova, who has been communicating with sign language for over six years and has been translating professionally for over three years.
Today, approximately 13 million deaf and hard-of-hearing people live in Russia, and for most of them, sign language is the main means of communication. Within the scope of this project, which coincides with the International Day of Sign Languages, Surdoclass and Odnoklassniki are trying to create more educational materials specially adapted for hearing impaired people and to help popularize the study of sign languages.
Gifts are one of the most common ways for users to interact on Odnoklassniki, and a whopping 11.2 billion virtual gifts were sent in the second quarter of 2023. It is important to note that the social network pays great attention to engagement issues. An example of this is that in 2022, the Odnoklassniki application will become the first social networking application in Russia to become accessible to visually impaired users.
