The issue stems from Epic Games classifying Russia as a “limited prize fund region” after February 2022. However, Abdrakhmanov and his teammate Lusiko competed from Belarus, which is not on the banned list (despite both having Russian passports). Putrick argues that they should be eligible for the award because they live and play in Belarus.

It is unclear whether Epic Games will pay the required reward money, but current sanctions against Russia indicate that finding a solution to the problem may be postponed until the situation normalizes.
