An anti-war statement by Arkady Volozh reduced the amount of the deal to split Yandex by $170 million, Frank Media has discovered. After Volozh spoke out against the special operation, the agreement was suspended and then “negotiated” on other terms.
After Arkady Volozh published a statement against the special operation, the amount that the Dutch company Yandex was to receive tripled. This was reported by Frank Media citing sources close to the negotiations and familiar with the results of the discussion of the issue in the government commission.
The pacifist statement that Arkady Volozh made in August 2023 suspended the Yandex division agreement for a month and a half. Subsequently, the Ministry of Digital Development reported that the parties “agreed” on new conditions, according to which the amount that Yandex NV was supposed to receive was reduced.
One of the conditions of the agreement was that Yandex would pay up to $400 million to its parent structure in the Netherlands. The government agreed to an amount of 250 million dollars, but after Volozh’s statement the amount was reduced to 80 million dollars.
As part of the Yandex division, its parent structure, Yandex NV, plans to develop drones, cloud technologies and Yandex Practice in the Netherlands.
