S7 Airlines will reduce the number of flights in autumn and winter by 10-15% compared to 2022 due to difficulties “with the planned maintenance of Airbus A320/A321neo aircraft,” writes Kommersant citing sources.
Problems arose with the repair of the latest generation American P&W engines, interlocutors from the government and the Ministry of Transport clarified. According to them, they are not repaired either at S7 Technics in Russia or in Iran, where they deal with “more widespread and understandable equipment.”
P&W’s engines are new and quite difficult to maintain, says an aviation industry source. He does not believe in the possibility of carrying out its repair in Russia in the near future. It is impossible to repair these engines without official support, confirmed Dmitry Voskresensky, representative of Willis Lease Financial Company in Eastern Europe.
- In June 2022, S7 Group froze the Citrus low-cost airline project. At the end of March it was learned that the launch of Citrus had been postponed indefinitely. The reason is the same as for freezing the project now: problems with the supply of the Airbus A320neo aircraft in which the company was to fly.
