Dutch authorities have launched an investigation into the Yandex Yango taxi brand. The reason was the new Russian law on taxi activities: according to it, the FSB gained access to taxi databases. The regulator monitors the company for violations of data protection laws.
Dutch authorities have launched an investigation into Yango, Bloomberg writes. The company offers taxi services from Yandex’s parent company Yandex NV.
The reason for the investigation was the adoption in Russia of a new law on taxi operations and related regulations. Under the new rules, the FSB gained access to taxi databases from a special registry. Yandex is listed in this registry.
The Dutch regulator is investigating Yango for violating European data protection laws and transferring user information to Russian services.
The Yandex.Taxi press service previously reported that they comply with European laws and do not transfer data on trips made outside Russia to intelligence services.
