AMD plans to invest heavily in software to complement its AI accelerators and develop a unified collection of software to support its various components. The acquisition of Nod.ai aligns with this strategy as Nod.ai technology facilitates the deployment of AI models tailored to AMD chips. Nod.ai’s customers include large data center operators.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Nod.ai, headquartered in Santa Clara, California, has already raised approximately $36.5 million in funding. Earlier this year, AMD created an AI group that will include acquisitions like Nod.ai. The group consists of approximately 1,500 engineers focusing mainly on software and plans to expand further in 2024.
“We are always looking,” said AMD President Victor Peng, emphasizing that the company intends to expand its capabilities.
