The Central Bank of the Russian Federation showed updated banknotes in denominations of 1,000 and 5,000 rubles. They have a reinforced protection complex, landmarks of federal districts were used in their design, the regulator said in a statement.
It should be noted that the banknotes will retain the color palette: 1,000 rubles are made in turquoise, and 5,000 rubles – in red.
The thousand-ruble bill was dedicated to Nizhny Novgorod and the Volga Federal District. The obverse shows the Nikolskaya Tower of the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin, the reverse shows the Museum of the State History of the Tatar People and the Republic of Tatarstan in Kazan, the Syuyumbike Tower on the territory of the Kazan Kremlin, the Museum of Archeology and Ethnography in Ugh.
The five thousandth banknote was dedicated to Yekaterinburg and the Ural Federal District. On the obverse there is a stele “Europe-Asia”, on the reverse there is a monument “The History of the Urals” in Chelyabinsk, a stele “66-parallel” (Arctic Circle) in Salekhard.
The banknotes have a QR code that leads to a page on the Bank of Russia’s website that explains the artwork and how to determine if the banknotes are authentic.
The updated banknotes will enter circulation gradually and will circulate on par with the 1997 banknotes.
